The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) is a series consisting of eight of the largest and most renowned marathons in the world: Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America, TCS London Marathon, Sanlam Cape Town Marathon (as of June 2026), TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS , BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and TCS New York City Marathon.  

For athletes across the globe, competing in an Abbott World Marathon Majors race is a significant accomplishment. The organizers of these events are united in their effort to advance the sport, raise awareness of its elite athletes and increase the level of interest in competitive marathon racing among running enthusiasts. There is one final marathon  currently in the Candidacy stage to become the ninth and final Abbott World Marathon Major. This is the Shanghai Marathon. Once you have successfully completed the original six events (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York), you will earn the Six Star Finisher Medal.  If Shanghai are successful in joining the series (Final assessment due in December 2026), a new Nine Star Finisher Medal will be introduced from 2027 onwards.
