The Big Five Marathon in South Africa is held among the wildlife of the African savannah.
The course is in the Entabeni Game Reserve, which is a 220KM private reserve situated in the Limpopo Province between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. In one of the most spectacular game reserves in Africa the challenging route crosses right through the habitat of the African game, including the famous Big Five: Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard.
No fences, no rivers, nothing at all separates the runners from the African wildlife!
But It’s not only about the race. Our entry packages give you a chance to explore the many sides of South Africa; its rich culture, mouth-watering cuisine, and spectacular nature. We will take you to some of our favorite places, to be shared with fellow running-minded travelers, friends, and family. The package tour includes game drives in four-wheel jeeps through the Reserve. You will have the opportunity to view the “Big Five” (African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros) as well as numerous other species such as giraffe, hippopotamus and the many splendid species of antelope, not to mention the abundance of bird life. Your safari lodges will offer spectacular views to the mighty Entabeni-monolith.
